Websites, Google Ads and Booking Automation for Salons and Barbershops
For independent salons, barbershops and suites where every empty chair hour is lost for good and the phone rings mid-cut.
Your phone buzzes while you are halfway through a fade.
You let it ring. It was a new client, and they booked with the shop down the street.
That is not a customer service problem. You are busy doing the work. It is a front-desk problem in a business that often has no front desk, where the person who answers the phone is also the person holding the clippers.
What we would do first
We would look at last month's book: how many no-shows, how many late cancellations, and how many clients did not rebook within their usual interval. Then we set up reminders, a waitlist and rebooking prompts in the booking software you already use, before spending anything on ads.
The rules that touch your marketing and your shop
Reviews. The FTC's consumer reviews rule Q&A says a business may offer incentives for reviews only if there is no express or implied requirement that the review express a particular sentiment. "Leave a review and get 10% off your next visit" is allowed if it is offered for any honest review and disclosed. "Get 10% off for a five-star review" is not.
State board rules. Cosmetology and barbering are licensed at the state level, and the boards regulate the establishment too. In Texas, TDLR announced that from January 1, 2023, establishments must display a Human Trafficking Awareness sign and a copy of the Health and Safety Rules, may no longer use alcohol as a disinfectant, and must have an identifiable sign with the establishment's name. None of that goes on your website, but your site should list the licensed professionals who work there and link to your policies.
Texts. Reminders by text need consent under the TCPA. The booking form collects it; if you add an AI voice assistant, the FCC's February 2024 ruling treats AI-generated voices as artificial voices.

Google Ads: for the services that bring new clients
The LocaliQ 2026 search advertising benchmarks put Beauty and Personal Care at $4.62 per click, a 6.75% click-through rate, a 10.35% conversion rate and $39.25 per lead. That conversion rate is well above the 8.18% average across all industries in the same report.
An illustration, built on the averages plus one assumption:
| Step | Illustration |
|---|---|
| Monthly ad spend | $800 |
| Bookings or inquiries at $39.25 | about 20 |
| Assumed share that become regulars | 1 in 3 |
| New regular clients | about 6 to 7 |
A regular who comes back every five or six weeks is worth far more than one visit, so we point ads at high-value services such as color, extensions and bridal, not at a basic trim. Management is $300 a month flat, and ad spend is paid to Google directly. At an $800 budget, we will tell you honestly whether the fee is worth it. See Google Ads management.
Four automations for how a salon or barbershop runs
- Reminders and deposits. Confirmation at booking, a reminder the day before with a reschedule link, and a card on file or deposit for services over an hour.
- Waitlist fills. When a slot opens, clients on the waitlist for that day get a message, and the first to accept gets the chair.
- Rebooking prompts. Each client gets a nudge at their usual interval, so a six-week cut does not drift to ten.
- After-hours questions. A simple assistant answers prices, hours and parking and sends the booking link, and passes anything technical to a stylist. See AI chatbots.
The money, written out
An illustration: a 4-chair shop loses 6 appointment hours a week to no-shows and late cancellations. At $50 of service revenue an hour × 6 hours × 50 weeks ≈ $15,000 a year. Recovering a third of those hours through reminders and the waitlist returns about $5,000.
| Today | After |
|---|---|
| Phone rings mid-service | Booking link and answers go out automatically |
| No-shows leave a dead hour | Waitlist fills the slot |
| Regulars drift past their usual interval | Rebooking nudge at the right time |
| Review requests offered for five stars | Honest-review requests, disclosed |
Honest limits
If your book is full for weeks, do not buy ads. Raise prices or add a chair first. And if you are a solo barber with a loyal client list, reminders and rebooking are probably all the automation you need.
You own the site, the ad account and your client list. We work remotely with shops, including in New York.

Frequently asked questions
Are Google Ads worth it for a barbershop or salon?
They can be for new-client searches like balayage, fades or bridal hair near a neighborhood. LocaliQ's 2026 benchmarks put Beauty and Personal Care at $4.62 per click and $39.25 per lead, with a 10.35% conversion rate, among the higher conversion rates in the report.
How do I reduce no-shows at my salon?
Send a confirmation at booking, a reminder the day before with an easy reschedule link, and take a card or deposit for long services. A waitlist that offers freed slots automatically can recover some of the rest.
Can I give clients a discount for leaving a review?
You can reward honest reviews, but under the FTC's consumer reviews rule you cannot make the reward depend on a positive or five-star review. Ask every client the same way and disclose the incentive.
Do salons need a website if they have Instagram and a booking app?
A simple site still helps, because it ranks for your name and services on Google, shows prices and policies in one place, and links straight to booking. An Instagram profile alone gives Google much less to show.
Can an AI assistant answer salon calls and messages?
It can answer hours, prices, parking and policy questions and send the booking link. It should hand anything about color corrections or allergies to a stylist, and any AI calls or texts need TCPA-compliant consent.
